《METALLICA》同名黑专集，这是METALLICA最畅销的专集，滚石杂志给予5颗星完美评价。这张1990年的专集，METALLICA开始主流化，并且由于上张专集过于兀长的评论，本张专集大大缩短了歌曲长度，虽然还是平均在5分钟左右，但是整体结构紧凑了很多，而且曲风上在尽量保持METALLICA特有的金属本色的同时，流行了不少，这是吸引主流乐迷的方法，但是同时乐队的冲击力并没有减少。“ENTER SANDMAN”是再次获得GRAMMY奖的作品，几近流行的旋律和很好的爆发力成了不少金属乐迷的启蒙作品。“SAD BUT TURE”沉稳的节奏和停顿是很多金属乐迷的最爱。“THE UNFORGIVEN”是反战名曲，一定程度上他们沿用了以前“FADE TO BLACK”的结构但是做了相当的简化，使得听起来直接了一些，可听性仍然很强。“NOTHING ELSE MATTERS”则是抒情曲，这首歌是METALLICA作品中用失真音色最少的作品，纯粹的抒情不知道早期METALLICA歌迷听了有何感想。整体而言，90年代对于金属统治的80年代是个十分重要的时刻，这个时期是金属时代最颠峰的时期，所有80年代红的金属乐队都在这一年前后推出了最畅销专集，当然颠峰后面就是悬崖，90年代告诉着我们金属年代要开始过去了。

Green Day乐队是90年代之后美国朋克音乐复兴时期的重要乐队之一，他们的成员深受70年代朋克音乐时期经典乐队影响，而简明上口的流畅旋律让他们的音乐更便于流行。在1994年涅磐王朝(Nirvana)崩塌之后，朋克音乐复兴与另类流行摇滚乐当道的时候，Green Day乐队也一跃成为了这股风潮的中流砥柱，成为了90年代以后最受欢迎的摇滚乐队之一，也是美国流行乐朋克复兴中最有影响的乐队之一。
1988年，只有14岁的吉他手兼歌手Billie Joe Armstrong与同龄的儿时伙伴，贝司手Mike Dirnt联手在美国加利福尼亚州西北部首先组建了Green Day的前身Sweet Children乐队，1989年当鼓手Al Sobrante加入之后正式更名为Green Day。成军之后通过发行一些EP专辑，进入90年代的Green Day在加州北方的地下朋克圈内名声鹊起，随即加盟了加州当地的独立唱片公司Lookout!。随着该公司老总Larry Livermore的推广，Green Day乐队已经成为了加州地下的名角。1991年，Green Day乐
